Waiting on Wednesday (#23): The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I'm featuring:

The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas
Book One of the Elemental trilogy
Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Publication Date: September 17, 2013

Summary (from Goodreads):

It all began with a ruined elixir and an accidental bolt of lightning…

Iolanthe Seabourne is the greatest elemental mage of her generation—or so she's being told. The one prophesied for years to be the savior of The Realm. It is her duty and destiny to face and defeat the Bane, the greatest mage tyrant the world has ever known. A suicide task for anyone let alone a sixteen-year-old girl with no training, facing a prophecy that foretells a fiery clash to the death.

Prince Titus of Elberon has sworn to protect Iolanthe at all costs but he's also a powerful mage committed to obliterating the Bane to revenge the death of his family—even if he must sacrifice both Iolanthe and himself to achieve his goal.

But Titus makes the terrifying mistake of falling in love with the girl who should have been only a means to an end. Now, with the servants of the Bane closing in, he must choose between his mission and her life.

Okay. I'm cheating a little. I've had an eARC of this book for months now. BUT, the new cover was revealed, and I really can't wait to read this book! I'm not reading it until July, because I'm still getting through June/July eARCs.

The old cover, which I LOVE

I absolutely loved the old cover, and I miss it, but this cover is fantastic. BUT, if anyone has an ARC of The Burning Sky with the old cover that they don't want... PLEASE let me know. PLEASE. I will beg and grovel and plead.

Love you all!

  1. Both covers are really awesome looking, but I think I like the old one a bit more. Maybe...

  5. I haven't heard of this book, but I like the sound of it! *drops on TBR-list* and also, I agree. The first cover is more beautiful, and if I had an ARC I would've gladly given it to you.
    Great pick!

  10. Great pick! This book does sound (and look awesome) but I haven't been able to decide if it's really for me. I'm just suuuper picky about my high fantasy.

I like both covers a lot, but I guess it makes sense why they changed it. The book is called "The Burning Sky" and the first cover looks like it's all about ocean. But the new cover really utilizes the "burning sky" idea.

    1. It's definitely something I think I would enjoy! I'm not as picky about what I read in terms of high fantasy, but what I like. And I agree what you said - but I still LOVE the first cover as a cover :)

  13. I'm excited for this one, too. I don't understand this cover change though. The original cover is absolutely stunning. I'm disappointed that they would change it. Oh well, the story does sound amazing. Great pick!

  14. I've heard that this is an excellent story! I agree with you, the ARC cover is way better that the new cover, they should have never changed it! Great WOW pick! Here's mine:

  16. I can't decide which cover I like better. I like the colors of the new one, but I think ultimately I like the original better, has a nicer fantasy realm imagery. :) Great pick - even if you "cheated"
