Release Day Giveaway & Swoon Thursday (#315): Team Player by Julianna Keyes

Happy Thursday, my friends! Today is the publication day of Team Player, a new book by Julianna Keyes. I ADORE Julianna Keyes' books, and I'm really enjoying this one. Get ready for the baseball season with this new sizzling romance!

About the Book:

Team Player by Julianna Keyes
Book One of the Charleston Thrashers series
Publication Date: March 28, 2019

Summary (from Goodreads):

BOTTOM NINE
Gwen Scott wants to love her job with the Charleston Thrashers, the MLB team she’s worshiped since she was a kid, but she can’t. Hateful colleagues and mind-numbing work make her days unbearable—until her head for baseball gets her exclusive access to the Thrashers’ clubhouse and she comes face-to-face with Tyler Ashe, the team’s sexy shortstop and baseball’s most ineligible bachelor.

BASES LOADED
Ty has sworn off relationships in order to focus on his all-star career, but with his best friend gone, his team struggling, and the press blaming him for every loss, the most recognizable man in the majors is in a slump. Until he starts spending his time off the field with a stern blonde who recites baseball stats for kicks and sees through his arrogant façade.

TWO OUT
As the Thrashers’ season gets into full swing and Gwen adjusts to her new job, their fun banter and friendly teasing turns into stolen kisses and countless steamy nights. The team’s strict policy against player-staff relationships throws a curve ball into the mix, but they can’t hide from their feelings any more than the most famous man in baseball can hide from the spotlight…

He smiled, then hesitated and said, “Your parents weren’t around at that age. Did kids bother you about it?”

Gwen shrugged. “A few times. And I’d never win in a fight, but Marge was intimidating. She once got arrested at a Thrashers game and her picture was on the front page of the paper. After that, everyone was very respectful.”

“She sounds great.”

“She was. When I first got here, I cried every night. Then she started to come into my room and read Thrashers stats to put me to sleep. I still recite them to relax sometimes. 158, 620, 122, 184, 41, 123.”

Ty’s jaw dropped. “Those are my numbers from three years ago.”

“I knew you memorized your stats.”

“Well, yeah, when they’re that impressive.”

She laughed. “Don’t get big-headed. I know everybody’s. I can’t help it.”

“Gwen, I’m a superstar athlete with five major endorsement deals—why would I be big-headed?”

She laughed again, and now so did he, the laughter fading when the commercial ended and the show returned. Ty reached for the remote and paused it. “Speaking of feelings…” he said, turning more fully to face her. “Are you still nervous?”

Gwen swallowed. “Me? Nervous?”

He smiled, not fooled. “We can just binge watch the show if you want. Hang out. I’ll go home when Todd dies.”

She managed to shake her head. “That’s not how this show works, and I don’t want you to go home.”

“You sure?”

“Positive.”

“Anything you do want me to do?”

Gwen finished her wine. Liquid courage. “Whatever you did on the golf course. And in the arcade. And whenever we’re within ten feet of each other.”

“That’s me? I thought it was you and your feminine wiles.”

“I don’t have any feminine wiles, Ty.”

He put down his glass and somehow slid closer, until there were just inches between them. Until she was sure he could hear her heart pounding against her rib cage, like it was trying to beat through her chest and toss itself into his hands.

He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “I think you do, Gwen.”

“I don’t even know what wiles are, actually—”

“Shh,” he said. “It’s working.”

Then he kissed her.

As with both times before, she forgot everything but the kiss. The world around them blurred and faded until it was just her and Ty, lips and tongues and heated breath. The world took her nerves with it when it left and all that remained was the fire in her belly, the one stoked by each glance of his tongue, his fingers cupping her jaw, his lips murmuring nonsense against the soft skin of her throat and making her shudder with each word.
His hair was impossibly soft, his lips more so, a sharp contrast to the strength and tension he radiated. It was impossible to decide where to touch, his hair, his biceps, her fingers slipping between his shoulder blades and holding on. They fell backward on the couch, her legs sliding open and Ty filling the space between them. The hem of her dress rode high enough that she could feel the fabric of his pants on her inner thighs.
He felt incredible. He tasted amazing. He smelled fantastic. Everything about him was so much more than any fantasy her mind could have conjured, and in recent weeks she’d done plenty of ill-advised dreaming. There was no way to describe how much he was, how big, how hot, how hard. How much better.
His hand inched its way down her body, stroking over her breast lightly so she arched into the touch, wanting more. She was not meant for eight months of celibacy, no matter what she told herself. And neither, if the erection pressing against her belly was any indication, was Ty.
She moaned and he kissed her and dropped his hand lower, covering her over her panties, the contact so combustible she almost came on the spot, and nearly cried when he stopped.

“We have to get away from the window,” he said, breathing hard. “I’m used to crowds, but…not for this.”

Gwen’s eyes flew open and she twisted her head to see. There was no one lurking outside, but she knew what he meant. With the curtains open and the late afternoon sun pouring in, anyone scrutinizing her horrible garden would find a much better show happening on the other side of the glass.
“My room,” she said, nudging him so she could get up. “We’ll go—”
“No need to stop,” Ty interrupted, standing and scooping her so her legs fit around his waist, their new natural habitat. “Just point the way.”
She considered protesting about the weight, but it was obvious he not only didn’t mind, but didn’t care. And, when he settled her more tightly against him, quite liked it. She opened her mouth to give directions—straight down the hall and to the left and anywhere is fine, really—but he was already moving, so she gave a half-hearted wave of her hand and kissed him instead.

He smiled against her lips, and with each step he bumped right between her legs. She was ready to explode by the time they reached her room and he lowered her onto the bed. Lying there, looking up at not just the sexiest man she’d ever been with, but, according to one magazine, one of the sexist men alive, it was tempting to give herself a quick pinch to make sure it wasn’t actually a dream. And then, when he unbuttoned his shirt and shrugged out of it, she really did pinch herself, because there was no way that six-pack was real. Until he crawled up the length of the bed to straddle her hips, and what she was feeling was very much real.

What do you all think? Be sure to pick up this book TODAY!

The Giveaway:

Thanks to Julianna Keyes, I have a paperback copy of Team Player to give away! Open internationally, ends on April 11th. Good luck!

Swoon Thursday (#314): The Similars by Rebecca Hanover

The Similars (The Similars, #1)

He pulls me into his arms and presses his lips to mine. This time when we kiss, it is unbounded, turning every inch of me inside out.

When the kiss is over, I stare into his eyes.

I absolutely love the second line - referring to the kiss being unbounded. That's a great line!

This week, my swoon is from Pan by Gina L. Maxwell!

Pan (a Neverland novel Book 1)

"You've always been so hard on this poo lip of yours," I whisper, soothing it with the pad of my thumb.

Her breathing is shallow, and her gaze drops to my mouth, right where I want it. Dipping my head, I hover just out of reach, teasing my lips over hers, until her eyes flutter shut, and I know she wants this just as much as I do.

"I've been dying to do this from the moment you stepped into my shop."

Then I claim her lips like I once claimed her heart - fully, almost desperately.

This week, my swoon is from Wrong Bed, Right Roommate by Rebecca Brooks!

Wrong Bed, Right Roommate

"We can't do this," she said, looking up at him, trying to figure out what the hell was going on.

"I know."

"Talia would freak."

"I know."

"And we're living together."

"I know."

"Then what are we - "

He kissed her again. The question fizzled inside her as soon as his lips were on hers, replaced with the champagne bubbles she felt just from being around him. She kissed him back, touching him, tasting him, his mouth warm and searching, her tongue moving with his.

- eARC, 33%

I loved this book! This is one of my favorite scenes. The forbidden romance aspect is superbly written. Also, for context, Talia is the hero's sister (and best friend of the heroine).

He bowed his head to kiss her - his mouth coaxing hers to open slightly - engaging her in a gentle, slow dance of lips and tongue. When he pulled back with a tantalizing smile on his stubbled chin, she quivered in anticipation of more. His ascent started again, though this time much faster.

"I can find out the truth." His hand slid down until it cupped the curve of her bottom.

"By gutting me?" she croaked.

His fingers tightened on her in a shocking manner. "Not nearly as fun."

And his mouth was on hers. His lips greatly nipped. Each caress intoxicating.

The tension she'd been carrying evaporated so quickly that she swayed, or would have, if Ian hadn't been holding her so tightly.

All she knew was that she had to get closer.

My hand slides back into his hair and grasps the silky strands at the base of his skull. Pulling him down, I rise on my toes, and press my lips softly to his. I don't want to hurt his injuries, but I need him to know that I feel it, too. All the need. All the fear.

His answer is the tilt of his mouth, the parting of his lips, and then there's only the warm, wet feel of his kiss, and his soft shirt, bunched in my fist. His fingers spanning over my waist, pulling me closer, and the tiny sigh that slips from my throat.

Kristen Simmons always delivers with the swoons! I highly recommend any of her backlist too!

This week, my swoon is from Grim Lovelies by Megan Shepherd!

Grim Lovelies (Grim Lovelies, #1)

She left Toblerone to guard the entrance and returned to the château, to the west bedroom, where Beau was still in bed but awake now, groggy, rubbing his head as though it ached. It was cold, and she pulled on her Faustine jacket.

"Anouk. The time -"

She climbed onto the bed and pressed a finger to his mouth.

"For once, let's not think about time."

Then impulsively, she replaced her finger with her lips.

He stirred awake quickly after that, stiff with surprise at first, but then his arms circled her waist and an exhale slipped from his throat. He kissed her back, sending magic shooting between her two ears, all the way to her ten fingers and her eight dirt-caked toes.

One of his hands found her hair, and she, in turn, found herself touching his cheekbones, his chest, his arms, every inch of him. She felt those champagne bubbles churning like they never had before, going straight to her head, making her feel giddy and thirsty and like she was a fool too, that she should have kissed him long ago, that they had wasted too much precious life already.

- ARC, pages 157-158

Such a swoony scene! Did you see that the cover of book two was revealed? It's beautiful!

He didn't care anymore. He yanked her into his arms and kissed her.

She opened her mouth of him. Teeth clashing, lips snarling together. Anything but yielding.

Freya.

How could this be? That slim girl, running wild over hills so long ago, her flaming hair a banner. This woman, volutuous and furious, her hair still a flaming banner.

He thrust his tongue into her mouth, confused and angry. How had this happened? Why was she here?

But those thoughts melted away as he explored her hot mouth, felt her hands clench in his hair, pulling him closer.

Freya.

She laughed, ad the sound went right to his belly and tied it into knots.

Unable to fight it any longer, he closed the distance between them and with one hand sliding to the back of her neck, his fingers buried in the thick mass of silky hair, he pulled her lips to his. She smelled of paint with a hint of flowers, like the ones she'd left by his bed. Their smell teased him all night and made him think of her.

His instinct was to devour, but he felt her tense and her eyes went wide. Watching her, he brushed his lips against hers. One. Twice. With barely a touch, he tasted a hint of the sweet grapes she'd eaten.

She stood perfectly still; her breath washed over his mouth from her slightly parted lips. "I thought we agreed this wasn't a good idea."

"We both lied about that." He kissed her softly again, lingering over the sweet torment.

He laughed. "I'll remember that." He kissed my forehead again, then my lips. It was a long kiss, sweet and lingering. "We should go," he said after a minute. "They'll be waiting for us."

"Aye, we should," I said, but he didn't move. I leaned against his chest, enjoying the sound of his heartbeat, the warmth of his arms, and the simple job of being love.

For a second, Sefia's whole world was light and soft and warm.

"Sefia," he whispered, tucking her hair behind her ear.

She bent closer, drawn to him as a hummingbird is drawn to a flower, her mouth gently landing on his.

He leaned into her kiss, responding to her lips and wandering hands as if her very touch was magic, making him moan nad arch and yearn for more.

"Mina," He touched her cheek, wrapped an arm around her waist, and took her mouth as he'd ached to from the moment they'd met.

Slow. He reminded himself to go slow, but his body raced from aroused to raging need. Warm, she was so warm. She tasted of cinnamon and jasmine tea, and her lips were a heaven he could never deserve.

His mouth descended on hers, passion-filled and demanding a response.

Her arms rose of their own volition and twined around his neck, her fingers buried deep in the silky strands of his dark hair.

A breathy moan escaped her lips, and he took full advantage of the slight opening and dipped his tongue in, to taste her more completely. Maggie's knees felt weak; a low whimper built in her throat. Take me... take me... take me...

"Good God, Maggie," he growled, his voice husky. "You are many things, but frigid is not one of them."

This week, my swoon is from Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss by Kasie West!

There was something so comforting about that actin that I pushed my forehead against his lips again and his complied with another kiss there. Then I lifted my eyes to his. He paused, his mouth lingering near mine, his hands still holding my face. This felt real. I was done thinking, and I didn't wait for him to analyze this. Because I knew he would analyze this, and I knew he'd come to the wrong conclusion: that now might not be the right time for this. I took a breath and pressed my mouth against his.

Maybe he wouldn't have come to the wrong conclusion, because he didn't hesitate at all, he kissed me back. He kissed me like this wasn't the first time the idea had occurred to him. And for the first time that day, I was able to forget about everything but that moment - his hands, now in my hair, his mouth moving across mine, my hands, pressed against his chest, feeling his heart hammering fast. My heart sped to match the pace, taking my breath away.

And so, when they were finally at touching distance, Kate dropped her basket on the ground and threw herself in his arms.

Matt was not hesitant then. She felt his arms go around her, heard his sharp intake of breath, smelled his musky, manly scent, but she could not see him... because her eyes were closed. He did not move again. Not because he might startle her - she had ever been imperturbable in these matters. But because he was startled. He had thought he knew everything there was to know about his desire. Had considered it, so long fettered and trammeled, as tame, or at least manageable.

When it had always been feral. Primal.

Her lips touched his nape, just above the rim of his collar. He spun around, cupped her face, and kissed her on the mouth, a kiss that he might never be able to stop.

She was the one who eased them apart - and combed her fingers through his hair. "You are welcome to stay."
