Unboxing: FairyLoot Deluxe Set of The Ember Quartet by Sabaa Tahir

Hello, bibliovories! I'm back with an unboxing post! In the last year and a half, I've subscribed to three book subscription boxes - Illumicrate, The Bookish Box, and FairyLoot. One day I'll write a whole post on each company and what I like and dislike about them. Maybe I'll start posting unboxings of the monthly boxes for each company. But today, I'd like to share my unboxing of the first special edition set of books that I've bought from one of the many book subscription boxes - the signed Ember Quartet by Sabaa Tahir, created and sold by FairyLoot!

Here's the box!

Time to open...

What's the print on the top?

This is beautiful! Gold foil is one of my favorite designs. And all of the major characters of the book are here. I love that Elias and Laia are prominent.

Here is the set! Orange, blue, green, and purple. I love the animal symbols are the bottom of each spine.

Pretty sprayed spines!

More pretty spines!

The gorgeous stenciled design! So beautiful!

You thought I was done? Above is the hidden cover of Ember.

And Torch...

How about Reaper...

And Sky!

Did I mention that the books are signed?

And altogether:

And that's the set! It was a pretty penny, but absolutely worth it. I love this series so much, and I love this deluxe exclusive set so much. Many thanks to FairyLoot and Sabaa Tahir, for making this set available to readers for purchase!

Promo and Giveaway: The Witchlands Series by Susan Dennard

Happy Monday! I am SO excited to share a new giveaway with you all! I've partnered with Tor Teen to make this possible. Tor Teen has offered to send one USA winner a copy of Truthwitch, Windwitch, and Sightwitch. Enter below!

I adore this series and encourage everyone to check it out. I'll be sharing pictures of my Witchlands collection on Instagram shortly!

About Truthwitch:

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
Book One of The Witchlands series
Publisher: Tor Teen
Publication Date: January 5, 2016

Official Summary:

On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery”, a magical skill that sets them apart from others.

In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.

Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.

Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safi’s hotheaded impulsiveness.

Safi and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship’s captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

About Windwitch:

Windwitch by Susan Dennard
Book Two of The Witchlands series
Publisher: Tor Teen
Publication Date: January 10, 2017

Official Summary:

The second novel in the New York Times bestselling Witchlands series, now available in trade paperback, an epic fantasy adventure hailed by Alexandra Bracken as “a world you will want to inhabit forever.”

Sometimes our enemies are also our only allies…

After an explosion destroys his ship, the world believes Prince Merik, Windwitch, is dead. Scarred yet alive, Merik is determined to prove his sister’s treachery. Upon reaching the royal capital, crowded with refugees, he haunts the streets, fighting for the weak—which leads to whispers of a disfigured demigod, the Fury, who brings justice to the oppressed.

When the Bloodwitch Aeduan discovers a bounty on Iseult, he makes sure to be the first to find her—yet in a surprise twist, Iseult offers him a deal. She will return money stolen from him, if he locates Safi. Now they must work together to cross the Witchlands, while constantly wondering, who will betray whom first?

After a surprise attack and shipwreck, Safi and the Empress of Marstok barely escape with their lives. Alone in a land of pirates, every moment balances on a knife’s edge—especially when the pirates’ next move could unleash war upon the Witchlands.

About Sightwitch:

Sightwitch by Susan Dennard
Book 0.5 of the Witchlands series
Publisher: Tor Teen
Publication Date: February 13, 2018

Summary (from Goodreads):

Set a year before Truthwitch, Sightwitch follows Ryber Fortiza, the last Sightwitch Sister as she treks deep underground to rescue her missing best friend. While there, she encounters a young Nubrevnan named Kullen Ikray, who has no memory of who he is or how he wound up inside the mountain. As the two journey ever deeper in search of answers, and as they brave one close call after another, a tentative friendship forms between them—one that might one day grow into something more.

Sightwitch is told through Ryber’s journal entries and her sketches, as well as through supplementary materials (such as other journals, pieces of songs, clippings from history books, flashbacks, etc.). Though meant as a companion novella, this story serves as a set up to Bloodwitch as well as an expansion of the world.

Next up is Bloodwitch!

About Book Two:

Her mentor, Lord Carlston, has arranged for Helen and her maid, Darby, to spend the summer season in Bristol, where Helen can sharpen her Reclaimer powers. Then the long-term effects of Carlston’s Reclaimer work take hold, and his sanity begins to slip. At the same time, Carlston’s Dark Days Club colleague and nemesis will stop at nothing to bring Helen over to his side—and the Duke of Selburn is determined to marry her. The stakes are ever higher for Helen, and her decision will truly change the world…

About Book Three:

The Dark Days Deceit by Alison Goodman
Book Three of The Dark Days Club series
Publisher: Viking Books for Young Readers
Publication Date: November 20, 2018

Summary (from Goodreads):

The thrilling, genre-bending conclusion to Lady Helen's demon-hunting adventures, set in the glittering Regency world.

Lady Helen has retreated to a country estate outside Bath to prepare for her wedding to the Duke of Selburn, yet she knows she has unfinished business to complete. She and the dangerously charismatic Lord Carlston have learned they are a dyad, bonded in blood, and only they are strong enough to defeat the Grand Deceiver, who threatens to throw mankind into chaos. But the heinous death-soaked Ligatus Helen has absorbed is tearing a rift in her mind. Its power, if unleashed, will annihilate both Helen and Carlston unless they can find a way to harness its ghastly force and defeat their enemy.

In the final book of the trilogy that began with The Dark Days Club and continued with The Dark Days Pact, the intrepid Lady Helen's story hurtles to a shocking conclusion full of action, heartbreak, and betrayal.

Blog Tour: The Dark Days Deceit by Alison Goodman

Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful Monday so far. And if not, I hope things start to look up. Today I'm sharing ten reasons why you should pick up The Dark Days Club, book one of the amazing trilogy by Alison Goodman! Stick around for more content on this series in the coming weeks!

Alyssa's Top Ten Reasons Why You Should Pick Up The Dark Days Club

10. The series is almost over. Okay, this might sound like a silly reason. But book three (the conclusion) publishes in less than three months! That's an excellent reason to start the series. No time like the present!
9. Nineteenth century historical fiction is super cool. You all probably know by now that I'm a huge historical romance fan, and love pretty much any historical time period. The 1800s is a great time period in which to set a story.
8. Alison Goodman really does her research. What's better than historical fiction? Accurate historical fiction. You can check out the extensive research that Goodman did on her website, right HERE.
7. On that note - who doesn't love some ball gowns and ball scenes? I am very partial to pretty dresses and elaborate social affairs like dances. In this series, Lady Helen is in the middle of her Season, which is peak socializing time for a young woman. I love it!
6. There is plenty of strong, gutsy women in the series. I adore Helen - she is so smart and curious, and strong in her own way. And her lady's maid, Darby, is a warrior in her own regard.
5. There is good action in the book (and series). I suppose, when one is fighting demons, there has to be good action throughout the story. Right? Right.
4. Now that I've mentioned demons - yes, this isn't just a historical fiction novel! I love the historical setting and the paranormal mashup. Demons abound! Supernatural abilities!
3.  There is a ~murder mystery~. Did Lord Carlston kill his wife? Is this just rumor? What happened to her, in truth? You'll have to read the series to find out...
2. Speaking of Lord Carlston, well, he is a reason all by himself. Do you love tall, handsome, and broody? You haven't met a man like that until you've met Lord Carlston. Helloooo hotness.
1. Slow-burn romance. Need I say more? I love slow-burn romance. Book two has one of my all-time favorite YA lit kisses. But we were talking about book one. SLOW-BURN! Love it!

(Do yourself a favor. Pick up this series. Look, there is a giveaway on Goodreads for a copy of The Dark Days Club!)

Then, unwelcome nightmare that he is, Ochus appears to Rho, bearing a cryptic message that leaves her with no choice but to fight.

Readathon and Giveaway: Zodiac Series by Romina Russell

Happy Wednesday, friends! It's hump day! It's also my birthday, which is fun. Today I'm featuring the Zodiac series by Romina Russell, a YA sci-fi quartet that I've enjoyed so far. I'm beyond exited about Thirteen Rising and I hope it will be an amazing conclusion. If you haven't read the Zodiac books yet, you should get on that! There is a readathon happening, and right now we're rereading Zodiac. Check it out!

About Zodiac:

Zodiac by Romina Russell
Book One of the Zodiac series
Publisher: Razorbill
Publication Date: December 9, 2014

Summary (from Goodreads):

At the dawn of time, there were 13 Houses in the Zodiac Galaxy. Now only 12 remain….

Rhoma Grace is a 16-year-old student from House Cancer with an unusual way of reading the stars. While her classmates use measurements to make accurate astrological predictions, Rho can’t solve for ‘x’ to save her life—so instead, she looks up at the night sky and makes up stories.

When a violent blast strikes the moons of Cancer, sending its ocean planet off-kilter and killing thousands of citizens—including its beloved Guardian—Rho is more surprised than anyone when she is named the House’s new leader. But, a true Cancrian who loves her home fiercely and will protect her people no matter what, Rho accepts.

Then, when more Houses fall victim to freak weather catastrophes, Rho starts seeing a pattern in the stars. She suspects Ophiuchus—the exiled 13th Guardian of Zodiac legend—has returned to exact his revenge across the Galaxy. Now Rho—along with Hysan Dax, a young envoy from House Libra, and Mathias, her guide and a member of her Royal Guard—must travel through the Zodiac to warn the other Guardians.

But who will believe anything this young novice says? Whom can Rho trust in a universe defined by differences? And how can she convince twelve worlds to unite as one Zodiac?

Book Blitz and Giveaway: Strange and Ever After by Susan Dennard

Welcome to the promo tour for the third and final book in Susan Dennard's steampunk, zombie trilogy, hosted by Itching for Books! I'm honored to help promote such an awesome author. Check out the giveaway at the bottom of the post!

Strange and Ever After by Susan Dennard
Book Three of the Something Strange & Deadly series
Publisher: HarperTeen
Publication Date: July 22, 2014

Summary (from Goodreads):

In the conclusion to the trilogy that Publishers Weekly called “a roaring—and addictive—gothic world,” Eleanor Fitt must control her growing power, face her feelings for Daniel, and confront the evil necromancer Marcus...all before it’s too late.

He took her brother, he took her mother, and now, Marcus has taken her good friend Jie. With more determination than ever to bring this sinister man to justice, Eleanor heads to the hot desert streets of nineteenth-century Egypt in hopes of ending this nightmare. But in addition to her increasingly tense relationships with Daniel, Joseph, and her demon, Oliver, Eleanor must also deal with her former friend, Allison, who has curiously entangled herself in Eleanor’s mission.

With the rising dead chomping at her every move and Jie’s life hanging in the balance, Eleanor is convinced that her black magic will see her through to the bitter end. But there will be a price. Though she and the Spirit Hunters have weathered every battle thus far, there will be consequences to suffer this time—the effects of which will be irreversible. And when it’s over, only some will be able to live a strange and ever after.

Susan Dennard will leave readers breathless and forever changed in the concluding pages of this riveting ride.

About the Author:

Susan Dennard is a writer turned marine biologist turned writer again. Strange and Ever After is the conclusion to her trilogy, which includes A Darkness Strange and Lovely and Something Strange and Deadly. Among the traits she shares with her heroine Eleanor are a weakness for Shakespeare quotes, a healthy appetite for baked goods, and an insatiable curiosity. Sadly, Susan does not get to wear a corset or wave a parasol on a daily basis.
