Quick Life Update

Hey bibliovores! Just a quick note from yours truly on my (somewhat not noticeable) absence. This week has been extremely busy for me at my job (I'm interning this summer and it is wonderful!), because of some new projects assigned that will take me through the rest of the internship. I had a weird week in terms of blogging, but nothing that would note any changes.

I went out on a site visit all day on Thursday as part of my job and sadly, I felt very nauseous and sick for the rest of the night on Thursday. I think it's heat sickness (I was outside for hours, and it was well over ninety degrees with insanely high humidity), and I'm just going to take it easy. I kept myself very hydrated throughout the day (or so I thought), but you never know, in this heat.

So I wasn't able to finish the review I had planned for today (Friday) - and it was for a book that I know many people have been excited and anxious to see me read. I'm sorry for that, but it'll be up on Sunday or Monday! And I'll began returning comments and emails I've missed all week, probably on Friday night, assuming I'm feeling better. This post is good for two things: 1) to let you all know what's up, and 2) to uphold my reputation of not missing a day of posting since I began blogging in December 2012 (though this post feels slightly cop-out-y but meh)! #2 is more for me though. :)

Anyway! Tell me what you're reading. What's something I should try? Don't forget to enter my July New Release Giveaway!

  1. Whoa, yeah, you got a bit fried it seems. I struggle out in the direct heat and I had trouble a couple days this week. Glad you knew to keep hydrated.

And hey, you're doing the best you can so don't beat yourself up if the blogging or something slips while you're doing what you need to do. :)

    1. I think so too! I'll need to pre-pre-hydrate this time (I have another site visit on Friday). Hopefully that works!

      Thank you, Sophia. <3

  2. Definitely sounds like you got super dehydrated. With heat like that, you don't stand a chance unless you've done some serious pre-hydrating...and even that won't save you if you're out all day. Find a cool air conditioned room to chill out in and chug water/Gatorade (with some pretzels to soak it up) until you feel human again. At least, that's my family's go-to. Feel better! :)

    1. Right? It's been crazy hot these past few weeks. I couldn't find a room with AC because we're literally outdoors all day, walking around or standing outside for a meeting! Great experience for the job, but terrible on my health, apparently. *sigh*

Thank you for the suggestions, Kel!

    2. That's rough. Hopefully you can at least stay in the shade on the next desert expedition! ;)

    3. LOL! I wouldn't quite call the Eastern Shore a desert, but thank you! :D

  3. I live where it gets pretty hot too, and heat stroke or heat sickness is horrid!!! So I drink like a TON of water if I am out in any heat hehe but I have been sick so much from the heat in the past, just not fun to deal with at all. Plenty of fluids like water and sports drinks should help ya. Hope you feel better soon.

  5. Hi Alyssa..yes it does sound you were a bit dehydrated from the heat. That happened to me once and it felt horrid. Thank God for AC! In regards to what I'm reading, I'm enjoying A Seven Realms Series by Cinda Williams Chima. It has 4 books: The Demon King, The Exiled Queen, The Gray Wolf Throne and The Crimson Crown (which is what I'm currently reading). It's story is similar to Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes: medieval fantasy, kings and queens, clans, wizardry and numerous character's mainly third person POV with the two main characters; no love triangles (thank goodness unlike the Sarah Mass books) and lots of world building and history. I originally wanted to read Flamecaster by the same author and learned that it's a new series continuation to Seven Realms so I read these 4 books first before I tackled Flamecaster. The covers are really pretty. Books are kind of long (500+ pgs each) and the first one is kind of dry in the beginning. I guess the author wanted to build the story up but each book flows smoothly to each other. I'm glad that I can read them all at the same time. If I had to wait a year for the next book it would be tough for me to remember what happened. I do love the Fallng Kingdoms series though. Can't wait for your The Beauty of Darkness review!! Rest Up!!

    1. Air conditioning is the best!

I've not read anything by that author, though I had the amazing opportunity to meet her last year! She is so sweet. I was fangirling despite never having read her books. Perhaps someday!

I'll be reviewing The Beauty of Darkness on Sunday (the 24th)! I've been struggling with the book, and I've set it aside. Soon though!

      Thank you! :)

    2. Oh no... not a good sign if you're struggling with it. :(

    3. It's soooo drama-filled -- and unnecessarily so. :/

  6. Alyssa, I commend your commitment to yourself to post everyday. After four years of blogging, I'm still struggling to post consistently whether its on a daily, weekly, or bi-weekly basis. Btw, I live in Georgia and its been extremely hot, humid, and dry here since the end of April. So, I definitely understand feeling drained after being in the heat most of the day. Hope you are feeling better!

    1. It's like once things pile on, free time disappears! I'm STILL trying to get used to this summer schedule - and before I know it, I'll be back to the university schedule of things... *sigh* Hang in there, Liza!

I love comments! I will always try and reply to your comments, as well as leave some comment love on your blog! :)

Also, this an award and tag free blog. While I am flattered that you would think of me, I really do not have the time to follow up. Thank you!
