Sweet Talk with the Sweet Sixteens: January 26th

Welcome to Week Four of Sweet Talk with the Sweet Sixteens! To see more details about Sweet Talk as well as previous posts, see the introduction post. Thanks to Charlene (Bookish Whimsy), for designing the banner and button for Sweet Talk.

Today, I'm featuring the authors and books publishing during the week of January 26th!

The Questions:

1. Describe your debut novel in sixteen words.
2. Pitch your book! For fans of _____, _____ meets _____, etc.
3. What are you working on now – is it related to your debut novel?

The Authors:

Melissa Gorzelanczyk, Author of Arrows

1. Cupid is banished to Earth to fix a dance prodigy’s life, originally derailed by his arrow.

2. Perfect for fans of Katie McGarry's novels and MTV’s 16 and Pregnant.

ARROWS is a fast-paced debut novel explores the internal & external conflicts of a girl who finds herself inexplicably drawn to a boy who seemingly doesn't reciprocate her feelings, touching on the issues of love, sex and responsibility, with a heroine struggling to control her destiny.

3. Yes, yes, no and no. :) I have four WIPs at various stages of revision right now--a sequel to ARROWS, a spin-off that explores a fantastical world described in the book, a YA historical and a YA contemporary.

Kali Wallace, Author of Shallow Graves

1. Coming back from the dead as a monster is not nearly as cool as it sounds.

2. This one is for fans of books that are a little weird, a lot creepy, full of monsters and mysteries all along the dangerous backroads of America's magical underworld.

3. My second novel, THE FUNERAL TREES, is an unrelated supernatural mystery about a haunted Vermont apple orchard. It'll be published summer 2017.

Rebecca Podos, Author of The Mystery of Hollow Places

1. Imogene Scott searches for her missing father using skills she’s learned from his bestselling mystery novels.

2. THE MYSTERY OF HOLLOW PLACES is Picture Me Gone meets The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.

3. I'm working on my second novel, unrelated to HOLLOW PLACES--a contemporary with tiny New Mexican ghost towns and performing mermaids and LGBTQ romance!

2. For fans of Holly Smale, Lousie Rennison and Jenny McLachlan. Geek Girl meets New Girl meets Fame.

3. Book 2 and yes, it's a sequel to Waiting for Callback!

  1. ALL the books are already on my TBR. However, if I were forced to pick 1, I would pick Arrows. I love mythology and enjoy when it is brought into a contemporary setting.

  11. Haha, we featured Melissa this month as well! I am so excited to read her book, I am hoping my library gets it in soon. I wasn't a fan of These Shallow Graves sadly, I wish I was though :( I downloaded by never read TMOHP so I should get on that soon since it is past publication date. I've only recently been seeing Waiting on Callback around, so it is one that I will have to check out!

I really love this feature Alyssa!
