My review is HERE.
Meet Nicola Marsh!
Alyssa: Hi, Nicola! Thank you so much for joining today on my blog!
Nicola: Thanks so much for having me.
Alyssa: Describe Scion of the Sun in fifteen words, to someone who has never heard of your book!
Nicola: Teenage misfit enters boarding school for freakishly gifted. Teleports. Faces evil to save the world.
Alyssa: How did the idea of druids and parallel worlds and ancient gods come about?
Nicola: I wanted Holly to be bound to an ancient god, so once I started researching it, the rest flowed on from there. The more I researched druids, the more the ideas blossomed. The story took on a life of its own after that!
Alyssa: Is there anything about your book that you would change?
Nicola: I love a good love triangle so maybe I’d ramp up the sexual tension between Holly and Quinn? But I just couldn't do it because Joss is so darn sexy! And having Holly bound to her warrior just brought them closer…
Alyssa: Oh, love triangles. I try and avoid them, unfortunately. But I love boarding school settings – what made you set Scion of the Sun in a boarding school?
Nicola: Because when the idea for the book first shimmered into my imagination, the first full paragraph popped into my head. C.U.L.T. had to be a boarding school for Holly to learn more about her ‘talents’.
Alyssa: What type of books do you like to read? What are you currently reading?
Nicola: I love reading contemporary romances, thrillers, YA and NA. I've got so many paperbacks stacked on my TBR list, along with an overflowing kindle. I’m on deadline so the reading is taking a back seat at the moment.
Alyssa: What’s one song that really represents Scion of the Sun?
Nicola: No Aphrodisiac by The Whitlams. It’s a haunting song that reeks of loneliness and that’s what Holly feels.
Alyssa: What kind of research did you have to do for this book?
Nicola: A lot! I spent countless hours brooding over the history of Druids and Celtic legends and names.
Alyssa: How do you like your romance?
Nicola: For adults, I love a good friends to lovers tale, or a reunion romance. With love triangles, I think they have to be done right to be effective. And not drag on. I feel like telling the heroines in some books ‘make a decision already!’
Alyssa: Um, yeah. I totally know what you mean ;) What are you currently working on in terms of Young Adult projects - something new? Anything contracted?
Nicola: I’m contracted for 2 more books in the Solar Snatchers series, so next up I need to write book 2, Seeker of the Sun (where things really heat up for Holly!) Harlequin Teen recently released another YA of mine, Banish, and they’re keen for a follow up to that too. And I have my first New Adult novel, BEFORE, releasing December 2nd. Can’t wait!
Alyssa: And that’s a wrap! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, Nicola!
Nicola: It’s been a blast. Thanks again, Alyssa!
