Feature and Follow Friday (#12)

The Feature & Follow is a creative meme that allows bloggers to get to know each other, and gain more followers! It is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.

If you would like, it would be great if you followed me via Email, GFC, Linky, or Google+ (all on the right). Let me know in the comments if you did, leave a link to your blog, and I will comment and follow back! I always do, I promise! Thank you so much!

Q: Tell us about the most emotional scene you've ever read in a book - and how did you react?

That's... difficult to answer. There are so many scenes that bring some emotion out of me, but I generally NEVER cry for books.

Fire (Graceling Realm, #2)

However, read Fire by Kristin Cashore. That one has so many heartbreaking scenes. I don't want to spoil any, but... there are so many instances where the heroine is made, well, imperfect. The ending is "happy", but the hero and heroine aren't perfectly perfect, as many YA series have their protagonists at the end of the series.

Don't let that deter you! That book is amazing. One of my favorites of ALL TIME.

What about you?

Q: What is your guilty pleasure as far as reading? Is it a genre, or is it a certain type of book?

Hmm... well, I guess it's time for me to come clean for ONE of my guilty reading pleasures! Ready for it?

I LOVE historical romance books!

:D

I usually don't enjoy adult romance books, but historical romance - like, the Regency era, Victorian era, etc. - is one of my favorite genres. It IS my favorite genre of the adult age level.

So, what about you? What's one of your guilty reading pleasures?

Q: Activity! Hopefully warm weather for most of us is here soon…so tell us about your favorite outdoor reading spot. Or take a picture.

It isn't warm in Maryland right now, but it will be in a few weeks. YAY spring! I don't have a picture right now, but I love reading in the shaded part of the deck in my backyard. I am totally a nature person, so I like being surrounded by plants and flowers and whatnot. There are several trees around, a few bushes, and various gardens that my mother and I like to tend. So, everything is usually really calm and serene and SUNNY when I go to read on the deck. Not right now though. It's like, thirty degrees Fahrenheit over here. *shivers*

So, what about you? Where do you like to read?

Q: What is a book you didn't like that all your friends raved about or what book did you love that wasn't popular?

Well, that's easy.

Everneath by Brodi Ashton.

I hated that book. Love triangle? Hate it, but this one was especially stupid. I want Nikki to end up ALONE and tormented. SHE IS SUCH A SELFISH PERSON! And I saw absolutely NO character development (referring to Nikki) from start to finish of Everneath. "Love story"? Try wimpy heroine who complains A LOT and always wants to get her way, because she is SOOO complicated, and her decision to be wrapped with Cole in the very beginning of the series was brought on by some major issues which she reconciles.

NO. Ugh. Hate that book. Easily my least favorite read of 2012.

Hate, hate, HATE that book. Sorry, Brodi Ashton. This post might sound SO awful, but this is just how I feel. Will I read Everbound? Maybe.

There's another one that I really didn't like, that everyone seems to like:

Wait for You by J. Lynn

Guys. I LOVE Jennifer L. Armentrout's books - Young Adult, Adult, whatever. This one book will not stop me from reading her books. But her shot at New Adult?

I think it was NOT so great. Is New Adult all the same? Broken girl, twisted yet HOT boy, they meet at college under weird-ish circumstances. OH, and of course, there HAS to be some mention of rape.

Are authors trying to romanticize the idea of rape? Is that okay? Whatever. I didn't like this book. I've read a ton of New Adult books, and some of them just sound familiar. This one sounds a lot like My Favorite Mistake by Chelsea Cameron.

Q: Confess your blogger sins! Is there anything as a newbie blogger that you've done, that as you gained more experience you were like -- oops?
Hmm, well, I have only been blogging for two months, so I AM a newbie blogger! I really don't know what to say for this one. I wish I could have more followers, as a newbie blogger? But I think I'm doing pretty well. Right? Yes. I think so.
So, for you more experienced bloggers, drop me a line! I would love to hear what you have to say, because it would really help me out, as a new blogger. Thank you!

Q: Write a letter to your favorite character. Rant, rave or gush…just pretend like they are real and you just want to let them know a "few things". - Activity courtesy of author, Kelly Walker

Dear Gavriel (Duval, from Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers),

Sooo... I know you live in a time period that is CENTURIES before mine, but you are the epitome of a wonderful gentleman, and I would not feel bad AT ALL if I stole you from Ismae!

I know most girls would go for the bad boys, and I admit, I do like me some hot bad boys, but when it comes down to it, I want someone who respects me, yet tells me exactly what he thinks of things, will let me protect myself but still look out for me, and best of all, USE A SWORD! HELLO! That is like, my number one requirement in a guy, right?

You could totally teach me. I would LOVE that!

So, Gavriel, just thought you should know :D

With lots of love,
Alyssa

I know I reference Grave Mercy a lot, but people, there IS a reason! A plethora of reasons, actually. If you haven't read it, I think you should! (Review HERE)

To whom are you sending a letter? Link me up!

Q: What is the first thing you would do if you woke up to find yourself in your favorite book?

Probably flip out. And then try and figure out how to get some swords. And one of the dresses. Grave Mercy (by Robin LaFevers) is hardcover, everyone. But I'm not sure how much I would enjoy not have toilets...

What about you?

YAY, I figured out how to gets the codes and place the list here!

Q: What is the last book that kept you up late into the night just to finish it?

So... here's a nice truth to put out there:

I've never stayed up late to finish a book.

Never, ever. It's not to say that there are not books that are good enough to make me want to do so. Trust me, there have been numerous occasions in which all I wanted to do was finish a book, and then go to sleep. But here's the thing.

* I share a room with my sister. Well, up until August 2012. And then she moved out to live in at her college. I'm 11 months younger, so I'll be doing the same in August 2013 (most likely). So, she is gone now, but before, I couldn't do that to her (I usually read in our room).

* I have a strict sleeping policy. I have a problem with not getting at least 6-7 hours of sleep. As a teenager, I should be getting about 8 hours. Even with homework and projects - if things aren't done before 11:30, too bad. Because I get up at 6:15, and I want my sleep. But usually, I do not procrastinate, so homework is never an issue. Reading, however, takes time, and I do not allow myself time to read, or do anything but sleep, after 11:30.

Q:Who is your favorite villain from a book?

This one is almost a no-brainer for me. There is one villain that really sticks out - the Darkling from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. This is not an endorsement for Team Darkling. I'd rather Alina end up with neither male character, but I am leaning towards Mal, because readers know next to nothing about the Darkling.

The Darkling doesn't always seem like a villain. At first, yes, he does, because he takes Alina. But, then it seems like he's her friend, and she depends on him. I love the quality of mystery about him. Despite the end of Shadow and Bone, I am kind of still on his side, because his motives, well, I understand them. But that's the thing with villain - they think they're the hero of their story.

What about you? :)

Q: If you could choose one supernatural being/creature to really exists what would it be and why?

I have been asked this question before, and my answer never really changes: a dragon. But like, a shape-shifting dragon. I would want to be able to switch between human and dragon forms. I've always loved science fiction and fantasy, and there are almost always some sort of dragon in those stories (although, the dragon is usually the "bad" guy). Dragons seem fierce and almost indomitable, and they can fly and breathe fire! There are disadvantages to being a dragon, like that immense amount of weight. But, you can't have it all!
