Waiting on Wednesday (#267): Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I'm featuring:

Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson
Book One of the Dance of Thieves series
Publisher: Henry Holt and Co. (BYR)
Publication Date: August 7, 2018

Summary (from Goodreads):

A new novel in the New York Times–bestselling Remnant Chronicles universe, in which a reformed thief and the young leader of an outlaw dynasty lock wits in a battle that may cost them their lives—and their hearts.

When the patriarch of the Ballenger empire dies, his son, Jase, becomes its new leader. Even nearby kingdoms bow to the strength of this outlaw family, who have always governed by their own rules. But a new era looms on the horizon, set in motion by a young queen, which makes her the target of the dynasty's resentment and anger.

At the same time, Kazi, a legendary former street thief, is sent by the queen to investigate transgressions against the new settlements. When Kazi arrives in the forbidding land of the Ballengers, she learns that there is more to Jase than she thought. As unexpected events spiral out of their control, bringing them intimately together, they continue to play a cat and mouse game of false moves and motives in order to fulfill their own secret missions.

I like spinoff series and this new trend of spinoff series and companion novels is fantastic! And I love the cover of this book. I'm sure this will be another good one by Pearson!

  2. Ah yay, glad to hear this one's a spinoff rather than a continuation---I never did get around to reading the rest of the Remnant series. Even though I loved the first book!! Someday, ha. ;)

  6. I don't usually like spinoff series bc sometimes I just want to finish a fantasy world with one storyline, but this seems intriguing! I've never read Pearson's books - do you think I should? Recently I've been sooo picky with my fantasies.

    Wonderful feature!

    1. I liked The Kiss of Deception and The Heart of Betrayal but honestly, the final book (The Beauty of Darkness) was no bueno. I hated it. But the series in general was pretty good. Honestly I would probably skip that series because of how truly awful book three was though. :O
