"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week, I'm featuring:
The Speaker by Traci Chee
Book Two of the Sea of Ink and Gold series
Publisher: G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers
Publication Date: September 12, 2017
Summary (from Goodreads):
The sequel to the critically-acclaimed New York Times bestselling fantasy The Reader, “highly recommended for fans of Cornelia Funke's Inkheart and female-powered adventures.”—School Library Journal
Having barely escaped the clutches of the Guard, Sefia and Archer are back on the run, slipping into the safety of the forest to tend to their wounds and plan their next move. Haunted by painful memories, Archer struggles to overcome the trauma of his past with the impressors, whose cruelty plagues him whenever he closes his eyes. But when Sefia and Archer happen upon a crew of impressors in the wilderness, Archer finally finds a way to combat his nightmares: by hunting impressors and freeing the boys they hold captive.
With Sefia’s help, Archer travels across the kingdom of Deliene rescuing boys while she continues to investigate the mysterious Book and secrets it contains. But the more battles they fight, the more fights Archer craves, until his thirst for violence threatens to transform him from the gentle boy Sefia knows to a grim warrior with a cruel destiny. As Sefia begins to unravel the threads that connect Archer’s fate to her parents’ betrayal of the Guard so long ago, she and Archer must figure out a way to subvert the Guard’s plans before they are ensnared in a war that will pit kingdom against kingdom, leaving their future and the safety of the entire world hanging in the balance.
No cover for The Speaker yet, but this is the first book in the series:
I loved The Reader! And I love that cover too, so I really hope the covers of the series don't change. More to the point - hopefully The Speaker is just as captivating as The Reader!
Holy crap, the a title and summary for book two is out now? Heading over to Goodreads right now and adding it, I loved the first book! Can't wait to see the cover when it gets revealed :)
ReplyDelete~Mogys @ BiblioSanctum
Yes! The book will be published in about six months, which is awesome. I really hope the cover is just as amazing as The Reader's!
DeleteOh I didn't know book 2 had a title yet so cheers to new information! I really enjoyed The Reader so whoohoo can't wait for The Speaker! My WoW
ReplyDeleteYay! Happy to help! I hope you enjoy this one. :D
DeleteI still have The Reader on my list, so I hope to get it soon. Nice pick!

Old Follower :)
Thank you, Jessica!
DeleteLovely pick Alyssa :D Sounds like an interesting book. <3 I'm pretty curious about the first one :) Hope this one will be amazing for you. <3
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carina! The Reader was magical. ;)
DeleteI haven't read The Reader yet, I will need to pick this one up soon! Great pick!
ReplyDeleteOoo, you could binge-read the two! Thank you, Kristyn!
DeleteI need to catch up with The Reader, I even have a copy:-/ I've heard nothing but positive things! I hope book two is just as good:-)
ReplyDeleteTammy, I think you would enjoy The Reader! If you read it, I hope it does not disappoint. :D
DeleteGreat pick this week, this series sounds really interesting.
ReplyDeleteHere is my WOW
Thanks, Aneta!
DeleteCool cover for the first book. I get bummed when authors or publisher's change the look of covers in a series. Start a good match then the rest will be different.
ReplyDeleteI get sad too! I feel like this series is going to have a cover change, just given how late the cover is being revealed. It should have been revealed by now, you know? Fall 2017 covers are out, for the major publishers. Ah well!
DeleteYou know, I tried the audiobook of The Reader and couldn't get in to it. I'm determined to find a physical copy!
ReplyDeleteAwww, I'm sorry! The physical copy is SO beautiful, Amber. <3
DeleteI still so need to read the first book of this series >.< it does look good!
ReplyDeleteThe Reader was quite good, Lily!
DeleteI still need to read the first one! Great pick!
ReplyDeleteCheck out the book I'm waiting on this Wednesday
Ooh, I heard only good things about The Reader but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but I absolutely plan to. I hope this sequel doesn't disappoint!
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful book, Keertana! Perhaps you could binge-read books one and two. ;D
DeleteHmmm...I haven't read the Reader yet, but it sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my WoW!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog
It definitely was!
DeleteThe Reader was one of my favorite books last year! I love that you didn't wait for the cover -- I'm so excited for this book, too! I hope there's not going to be a cover change -- not only will my series not match (grrrrr), but I love the cover of the The Reader so much. Awesome pick, Alyssa :) Have a great week and happy reading!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, cover or no cover, this one was getting featured! I go in chronological order, so I reached this particular publication and the cover still hasn't been revealed. :/ Whatever, I'm excited nonetheless. :D Thank you!
DeleteGreat pick Alyssa! I haven't read the first one, but now I am excited :) And I hate waiting for covers omgg.
ReplyDeletePrabhleen @ Booksarelife987
You should try The Reader in the future! I'm nervous because many other Fall covers have been revealed, but not this one. Grrrr!
DeleteI haven't read the first book yet (massive TBR - say no more) but both books look really good. Thanks for sharing, I hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my WoW yesterday :)
Girl, I get you. ;D You're welcome!
DeleteI have blogger shame for admitting that I haven't read The Reader yet! Everyone seems to LOVE it! I love the cover as well. Normally faces on covers are a bit weird to me, but this one works so well. Great pick Alyssa! And thanks for visiting my WoW earlier!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful rest of your week!
Genni @ Ready, Set, Read!
No worries! The Reader was wonderful, and I highly recommend it.
DeleteYou're welcome, Genni!
This series is on my TBR list too. I'm glad you enjoyed the first book. I need to move this one up the list.
ReplyDeleteThank you! If you read the books, I hope you like them!
DeleteI ended up DNFing The Reader about 3/4 of the way through. It was just a bit too long and too much "LOTR amounts of walking" XD But I hope you enjoy the sequel, and I'm curious to see what the cover will look like! :)
ReplyDeleteBrittany @ Brittany's Book Rambles
Hmmm, I suppose I see what you're. The LOTR books did have a lot of boring patches. :D Thank you!
DeleteI haven't read the first book, but I recognize that cover. I hope you enjoy reading this book, Alyssa.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by My WoW.
I hope so! Thank you, Sandra. ^_^
DeleteI've seen The Reader around, but never really read its description before. It sounds good. Also, don't you hate when a book you want to feature as your WoW doesn't have a cover yet? It makes me so sad...
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Shell's Stories!
I honestly get so annoyed! And then I try to shift things around but I pick in chronological order so it doesn't always work! By now, this book should have a cover. -_-
DeleteYou're welcome, and thank YOU!
I have heard such good things about The Reader. I really need to read that one before the next book comes out. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteI liked it a lot! You could binge-read the two books. ;) Thank you!
DeleteI haven't read The Reader, but I have heard great things. I hope you love this one just as much. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Natalie! I hope so too. :D
DeleteI was just thinking the same thing about these covers---I hope they keep the design the same, especially because I don't really care for the trend Penguin covers seem to be following this coming season (of the few recent reveals I've seen anyhow). :( I never did get around to reading The Reader but it sounded like a gorgeous story!
ReplyDeleteI am honestly expecting the worst from Penguin with every single series, it seems. Every time a book #2 is going to publish, they change the entire look. Sometimes the new covers are even better (though rarely) but it's so frustrating and annoying!
DeleteI could rant about that for days! But in any case, I can't wait to read this book. ;)
YAASSS! I loved The Reader too! I am hopeful that book 2 is as good (or better!!!) and I can't wait to see that cover reveal! :) I'm also hoping for the same depth of puzzles and marginalia to be in book 2... :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, the puzzles and marginalia (that is such a fun word) were SO great in The Reader!
DeleteI think the The Reader is one of those books that slipped under my attention. I recognize the cover, but I have no recollection of reading the plot summary... I hope the sequel lives up to your high expectations!!
ReplyDeleteLiz at Midnight Bloom Reads
Thank you, Liz! <3
DeleteOMG!!!! So this is the sequel to "The Reader"?! I featured this book on a WOW post some time back. And there's already a sequel?! Well, I want it, too!! Lol. I've heard GREAT things about the first book, so I sure hope the second one is just as good!! Hope you enjoy it when it releases, Alyssa!! Meanwhile, I'm adding it to my Goodreads shelves, to join "The Reader". :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by and commenting on my "Can't Wait Wednesday" post!! Have an AWESOME weekend!! <3 :)
Yep! It has been a long time coming! I hope you enjoy The Reader. I hope you have a great week, Maria!
DeleteI still haven't read The Reader! Now, seeing how much you loved it, I need to add that to my TBR list. Thanks for the recommendation, Alyssa! I hope you love The Speaker as much as The Reader when you get a chance to read it!
ReplyDeleteI adored The Reader! I hope you enjoy it, Darlene. Thank you!
