"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week, I'm featuring:
The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh
Book Two of The Wrath and the Dawn series
Publisher: Putnam Juvenile
Publication Date: May 3, 2016
Summary (from Goodreads):
I am surrounded on all sides by a desert. A guest, in a prison of sand and sun. My family is here. And I do not know whom I can trust.
In a land on the brink of war, Shahrzad has been torn from the love of her husband Khalid, the Caliph of Khorasan. She once believed him a monster, but his secrets revealed a man tormented by guilt and a powerful curse—one that might keep them apart forever. Reunited with her family, who have taken refuge with enemies of Khalid, and Tariq, her childhood sweetheart, she should be happy. But Tariq now commands forces set on destroying Khalid's empire. Shahrzad is almost a prisoner caught between loyalties to people she loves. But she refuses to be a pawn and devises a plan.
While her father, Jahandar, continues to play with magical forces he doesn't yet understand, Shahrzad tries to uncover powers that may lie dormant within her. With the help of a tattered old carpet and a tempestuous but sage young man, Shahrzad will attempt to break the curse and reunite with her one true love.
Ugh, that synopsis makes this book sound AWFUL. lol. But I loved the first book so... I'll endure. :D
I can not wait to read this book!! I absolutely adored WRATH, and I know this one will be just as wonderful too. Great pick <3
ReplyDeleteRachel @ A Perfection Called Books
Same, I hope it's good! I just have a bad feeling, especially after that synopsis...
DeleteI need to read the first book! I've heard nothing but good things about it and hope to start it soon because even having not read it I'm excited for book 2 What I'm Waiting On
ReplyDeleteThe first book was excellent! I'm really happy the series is only a duology. :D
DeleteI loved The Wrath and the Dawn and I can't wait for this one either!
ReplyDeletehttp://dualreads.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/wednesday-catch-up-2nd-december-2015.html
Hopefully we love it when we read it!
DeleteIt does sound like a hot mess in the blurb, but sometimes blurbs don't do the story justice as I've learned a few times. Glad you're going with instinct and I hope it turns out good. I still need to read book one.
ReplyDeleteAGREED! I know this one is going to be slightly hard to read because the OTP is split up BUT... I'm sure it will be amazing. You should definitely give The Wrath and the Dawn a chance, Sophia!
DeleteSometimes, the blurbs does nothing to bring a book to our attention, and I really hope you'll enjoy The Rose and The Dagger once you get your hands on it, Alyssa!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Wednesday and happy reading.
Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews
That is so true! Thank you, Lexxie. :)
DeleteYikes that blurb! Hate when the blurb doesn't do the book justice. Hopefully it will be as good as the first.
ReplyDeleteMy WoW
I'm sure it will be! Just slightly worried. D:
DeleteI ignored everything else in the blurb except for Shazi learning to handle her powers!! So excited for this one!! And such a GORGEOUS COVERRRR!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's smart, I'm more excited to read the book ignoring the blurb than knowing what the blurb says. LOL
DeleteI haven't even read the first book yet ... oops. But I have it at least! It sits on my shelves and demands to be read VERY SOON. I hope I can get to it asap! Hopefully this will be awesome, haha. :D
ReplyDeleteHere's my WoW! :)
Yvonne @ A World Between Folded Pages

Old Follower :)
Yaasss! Soon, but not soon enough!
DeleteOhh so that's what happened, lol. I stay away from love triangle as much as possible so the moment I sensed a love triangle in the first book I immediately stopped reading it. It seems like I can resume reading it now though. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Here's my WoW
I don't really see a love triangle... I just hate that the OTP is split up, probably will be for the majority of the book. THAT'S what's bothering me. :P
DeleteI only recently read TWATD, but I'm desperate to get my hands on the sequel! I agree the synopsis isn't the best, but I have no doubt that the actual book will be outstadning. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteSophie @ Sophie Reads YA
I'm trusting Ahdieh! Crossing my fingers that it doesn't disappoint. Thank you, Sophie!
DeleteMore picks for my TBR list! Visit my WW Post.
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteI'm so excited for this! Especially after the ending of the the first book >.< And I agree, that synopsis is killing me toooooo.
ReplyDeleteAsma @ IceyBooks
THE ENDING. D: Ahhh, we need this book so badly!
DeleteAah, I haven't read The Wrath and the Dawn yet but it's definitely on my Christmas wish list after all the wonderful things I've heard about it! I hope you love The Rose and the Dagger when it releases, Alyssa :)

Zareena @ The Slanted Bookshelf
You should! It was really great - but I recommend possibly binge-reading the duology, Zareena. :D
DeleteOhh great pick Alyssa I really want to read The Wrath And The Dawn which I am going to check out from the library first soon, and see if I like it or not. But I have a feeling that I am really going to love this book series!
ReplyDeleteI hope you do, Katiria! Binge-read the duology, if you get the chance!
DeleteGreat pick, hope that you get a chance to read and enjoy soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brandi!
DeleteThis was my pick last week :D I am SO waiting on this one right along with you! The first one was glorious and that ending was cruel but effective because I need this one. Bad! Awesome pick^^
ReplyDeleteCruel ending, cruel author! But you're right, the ending was a (nasty) hook for sure!
DeleteGreat choice! I still need to read the first one. I don't think I've seen a bad review of it at all.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is pretty impressive!
DeleteHa, yeah the synopsis isn't the best but yes, enjoyed the first one so I'm still excited! haha. Great pick (:
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI have not read book 1 yet, but I bought it recently because of all the glowing reviews
ReplyDeleteIt was excellent!
DeleteI'm thinking that if you liked the first book in this series, then this one will probably be equally as good. Blurbs are not always the best to go on.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy.
HOPEFULLY! I'm slightly nervous. *bites nails* Thank you, Marilyn!
DeleteI haven't read the first book yet, but I know lots of people loved it. And WOW that blue cover! That blue just makes me happy:-) Have a fantastic day, Alyssa!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great blue! Nice choice by the design team. Thank you, Tammy!
DeleteOh nice! I haven't read the first book only so yeah I have to start reading it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting me.
~Priyanka @ A Booklion's Hideaway
You might love it, Priyanka!
DeleteI still have the first book sitting on my TBR shelf at home. I may wait until January to read it and make it part of the challenge I'm thinking of creating where I start new series next year that I keep saying I'm gong to start. Thanks for visiting my post yesterday!
ReplyDeleteYou should binge-read the series, Lisa! You're very welcome. :)
DeleteAnd here, I haven't eve read the first book! :( I have to catch up real soon! :(
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit! :) <3
Donita @ My Random Book thoughts
READ IT! :D
DeleteOh, I already know what will happen, just you wait and see.. there will be kisses with the ex. Of course. Always happens. UGH. Yeah, I'm starting to think that I don't want to read these books at all, lol :D Aaanyway. Awesome pick Alyssa. <3 I do hope that you will end up loving this one :)
ReplyDeleteI hope not! Somehow I have a feeling that that won't be the case. What's bothering me is the separation of the OTP. :O
DeleteGood choice! I loved The Wraith and The Dawn. I was so busy reading it I forgot I was supposed to be meeting a friend and got a call asking why I hadn't picked her up when I was supposed to. It's been a long time that I got so caught up in a book I genuinely lost track of time.
ReplyDeleteWOW! That's kind of awesome. :D So glad you loved it as well!
DeleteGreat pick! I still have to read the first book. >.< Maybe I'll just read them back to back?
ReplyDeleteThe covers are sooo gorgeous.
Thank you! I highly recommend binge-reading them back-to-back, given the ending of book one! *bites nails*
