Hey friends! Today is yet another day in which I didn't feel like writing/posting a review, so I'm doing another favorites post! You can check out my favorite YA foreign editions posts HERE, favorite YA books (alphabet style) HERE, favorite YA books with one-word titles HERE, and favorite swoons from YA books HERE.
Here are some of my favorite YA Jane Austen retellings!
Note: this isn't a definitive list, as usual! Also, Heartstone is adult fiction
Here are a few that I didn't love but are still worth mentioning!
And here are a few I want to try!
This post came to be because I was rereading Heartstone and realized how much I really loved retellings of Pride and Prejudice. Some of these books are inspired by other novels like Persuasion. But tell me - what are some of your favorite Jane Austen retellings (YA or adult)? Send me all of your best recommendations! =)
Oh cool! I've only read First and Then and For Darkness Shows the Stars on your list, but I have Heartstone and Last First Kiss.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed several retellings, but I'll spare you and just name a few: Villa Fortuna by Cat Gardiner, Sway by Melanie Stanford, I Could Write a Book by Karen M. Cox, The Elizabeth Papers by Jenetta James, Jane of Austin by Hilary Manton Lodge.
There are a few I have my eye on, too: Mansfield Park, Mummies, Monster Mayhem... by Vera Nazariam (it just sounded like a hoot), Prada and Prejudice by Katie Oliver, The Jane Austen Project by Kathleen Flynn, and Interference by Kay Honeyman
The only one I've read of these if For Darkness Shows the Stars. At first, I thought it was really slow going, but the book stayed with me! I enjoy retellings, but they're not what I generally lean towards. I just read a book pitched as "Sleeping Beauty in space" (Our Dark Stars by Audrey Grey and Krystal Wade). It was okay, but I didn't love it.
ReplyDeletePinned several for my future reads. Love JA!
ReplyDeleteHave you read any of Katherine Reay's books? She has several JA retellings! My favorite was Dear Mr. Knightley.
I have never read Jane Austen. I should probably be ashamed. I haven't had the chance to read any of the books on your list and I had no idea that they were inspired by Austen.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say that I haven't read any of these, but I have read Ivory and Bone, lol :D It was awful, though, haha. <3 And have not read any Jane Austen book o.O Maybe one day, though. <3 Lovely post Alyssa :D Yay for having so many favorite re-telling books :D
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I enjoy reading Jane Austen I will need to check out some of these retellings!
ReplyDeleteThese all sound so awesome! I love Austen, so I must check these out. Great list, Alyssa, thanks for sharing :)
