Stacking the Shelves (#203)

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews, in which bloggers share the books and swag they've received in the past week!

So, what did I get in the week of Sunday, November 6th to Saturday, November 12th?

(all links to Goodreads are provided!)

In the mail:

Since I'm not going home this week, I'll post the mail I got this past week on next week's Stacking the Shelves post!

From NetGalley:

Thank you for the widget, Berkley, and thank you for the approval, Random House! My NetGalley books are really starting to stack up. My percentage ratio is no longer 100%! #bookbloggerproblems

From Edelweiss:

Thank you for the widget, Avon! This was my only pending request on Edelweiss, so I'm glad it's now one that I have. I'm excited!

Friends, I'm sorry. I've dropped the ball a little this weekend. Not just in blogging/commenting, but in my academics, my personal life, my social life. I'm devastated and furious about this week's elections, and my heart hurts. Even in a state like mine, you can already see the repercussions and consequences of electing such a man.

That is all I want to say about it here (though, in all fairness, this is my blog); my apologies to all, I will catch up with comments and such. Just... hang in there, everyone. Especially my fellow "diverse" friends - hang in there, and stand right back up.

  1. I really feel for you about the election. I can only imagine how frightening it must be for America right now. I hope next week goes better for you, and that you manage to take just day at a time :)

Blood Rose Rebellion looks amazing, hope you enjoy it!

Thank you! If you read Blood Rose Rebellion, I hope you enjoy it as well. =)

  3. Blood Rose Rebellion is on NG?!!!!! Ahhhh!!! I need to request it!
The elections this week have been brutal. I had a bit of hope that the hate crimes wouldn't happen and I had hope US wasn't so racist but this proved a lot and it really hurts. I hope you feel better this coming week.
Thank you for your support! <3

    1. Yaaasss! Go go go!

Bah. T***p has brought out the worst of America. I've seen so many hateful acts all over the country, but on my campus too! It's despicable. And discouraging!

      *hugs* Chin up, lady!

    1. There are so many problematic things with what you just said and I am EXHAUSTED from my attempts to shedding light to people that just do NOT see what they are doing/saying that is problematic so I'm not even going to argue with you!

      Much.

Maybe you should take a peek at THIS article. The title speaks for itself, and addresses your "losing is never fun" statement. You have missed the point if you think the only thing I'm mad about is Hillary Clinton "losing". Because sure, she lost, but she lost to a sexist, racist, xenophobic, vile human being that has incited sexist, racist, xenophobic, violent acts all around this country. I am so disappointed in anyone/everyone who voted for him, but ESPECIALLY women. "Grab them by pussy" doesn't bother you? Okay.

"A return to respectful discourse and conduct" -- yeah, I hope white Republican America stops stops with swastikas and defacement of property and violent acts against Muslims and African Americans. That would be nice. But I sure as hell hope that everyone who refuses to accept this outcome keeps fighting because I personally don't want a Hitler 2.0 come 2017. And before you say it -- yes, I know what checks and balances are. I also know that Trump/Republicans hold/will hold all three branches of government.

But I said I wasn't going to argue.

Have a great week! I do mean that sincerely. You have a great week and I'll try to stay safe in a very racist America. #PoCproblems

  7. It's been a tough week for sure. I was also crushed by what happened in the election. I'm trying to be hopeful knowing that the president has many people to go through before decisions can be made/changes can occur. Hang in there, Alyssa!

    1. Same! Two of my professors took the class period to have an open discussion. Most people were furious and miserable. One professor was upset but thinks it's best for the country if everyone "moves on". I'm not so sure about that, but I understand his point.

  15. oh yeah, I think the outcome of the election surprised many. Quite frankly, I think what is worse is how people are treating each other. So much violence and hate feels, I just want to run to a deserted island. hehe I do try to be positive though, and hoping things don't go too downhill. Hope your week improve though. If it gets too bad, I have family in Canada that i might just live with for a while hehe

  18. I really do sympathise with you about the election. I woke up on that morning, saw the news, and just thought what is happening with the world?! And the racism and misogyny that's already occurring is disgusting. We've had the same here in the UK after Brexit. Hope you stay safe through all this. Your book haul looks great though, that's a plus haha! Blood Rose Rebellion sounds really good, can't wait to see what you think of it. :)

  22. Oh Alyssa. I'm sorry for your terrible week. I am not American and I've never even been to America but I too am devastated. I am shocked and in disbelief and if you look at the sheer number of people that are genuinely fearful for their futures you wonder how such a thing could even happen. And let's not be naive - America is a world super power: this will affect us all.

Argh. Don't even show me NetGalley stuff! I have to be careful not to lose my 80% status, which is easy to do when you're a new blogger and haven't got that many books on the 'Feedback Sent' shelf there! Plus I'm technically on an ARC ban for the rest of the year until I finish my little pile and get through my commitments. At least there's so many there I'm really excited to read.

Wishing you all the best for this week and I really hope you can have a better one.

    1. So much was on the line, with this election! I feel like we ("we", in quotation marks) chose wrong. But sometimes democracy isn't always the best thing...

I remember being in the same spot as you are now, with NetGalley. The eARCs piled up quickly, after the first few approvals/read now's. Just keep on top of everything! I started my blog schedule shortly after that NetGalley pileup, and years later, I'm still using the scheduling. It works for me!

      Thank you, Di!

  26. I'm right with you about the election. I just keep reminding myself that we have a chance to fix things in two years. It's sad to see that someone with such hateful rhetoric so easily won the 270 electoral votes. Hope this week will be better! :D

I've had my eye on Blood Rose Rebellion! I'm interested to see what you think of it. :)

  27. The fact that your ratio was ever 100% is impressive, haha. I'm pleased when I can maintain a ratio in the mid-80s!

I have felt the same, and I'm not even American. But here in Canada we're definitely feeling some ripple effects already, not least of which in the hordes of smug Canadians who think White Supremacists/alt-right people could never rise to power here. <--- Not a kind of delusional thinking that I support.

    Take care of yourself, Alyssa.
