Interview with Rachel Caine, Author of Ink and Bone (and GIVEAWAY!)

Hi, wonderful people! Today, I have a special post for you all! I had the honor of interviewing the one and only Rachel Caine, author of Ink and Bone! And there is a giveaway! You'll want to read this one - I loved it! Off you go, lovelies!

Meet Rachel Caine!

Alyssa: Hi, Rachel! Thank you so much for joining me today on my blog! And congratulations on yet another release! How many times have you been published now? :)

Rachel: Eeek, I think this makes ... 46 novels? *faints*

... WOAH.

Alyssa: Describe Ink and Bone in seven words?

Rachel: Harry Potter combined with The Book Thief! (7 exactly!)

Alyssa: Were there any books or other works that inspired or influenced you when you were writing Ink and Bone?

Rachel: Maybe, very distantly, some of Guy Gavriel Kay's work, like The Lions of Al-Rassan, or Tigana, but honestly, I can't think of anything that directly impacted it. I tried hard to explore the ideas to the fullest, and it led me in new directions.

Alyssa: I need to look these up! So, I know that authors have no control over covers, but I must ask – how do you feel about Ink and Bone’s cover? Did NAL’s design team accurately portray the novel, in the cover? (I personally LOVE the cover, it’s one of my favorites of 2015!)

Rachel:  I adore this cover, I couldn't love it any harder, honestly. It's not just the front cover, but the paper they printed it on, the spine design that looks like an old book ... it's just AMAZING. And I think it's absolutely evocative of the story, without being illustrative. (Love the burning corner, the English lions, the smoke rising up, the debossing ... ). The NAL design team just killed it on this.

Alyssa: It's one of my favorite covers - and I LOVE the old spine type of design! My favorite spine ever! Was there a character in this book that you particularly enjoyed writing?

Rachel: They all had their joys, but I suppose it might be Niccolo Santi. Everybody's got secrets, and so does he, but he's very straight-ahead with his motives, and quite level-headed about everything. A lot of fun, actually.

Alyssa: Mmm, I can see that. He was an... interesting guy :D This is a series, correct? Can you tell us anything about the upcoming novel/novels?

Rachel: The second book is called PAPER AND FIRE, and I'm working on it right now! I plan for this to be a 3-book series. The second book will be out in summer 2016, and the third in 2017.

Alyssa: WOAH! That's the first I've heard of the title of book two! You heard it here first, folks! And that’s it for today! Thank you so much for letting me pick your brain, Rachel :D

Rachel: Thank YOU for having me! I appreciate you taking the time to do this, and read INK AND BONE!

I think I'd collect a collection of Shakespeare's works so if need be, we can start another era of literature based on the bard's plays.

I loved Prince of Shadows by Caine, so I'm pretty sure I'll adore this one!

  9. As book lovers this is a really tough one to answer. I suppose in order to keep me sane from not having books, I'd want to keep some type of motivational book like 365 Ways to Live Happy by Meera Lester. Every blog I'm visiting today is raving about this novel, so I've got to get it. Love the interview and opportunity to meet such a brilliant author. Hugs...Ro

  12. Thanks for the opportunity. I don't think I could ever choose a fiction book, even a fantastic book gets old after reading it 20 times. Maybe a how-to book so if I do reread things, I get better at the activity.

  17. My immediate thought was Graceling by Kristin Cashore. It's the book that got me hooked on both YA and fantasy. But the second book that came to mind was Uprooted by Naomi Novik. It's new and my first Novik read but it's AMAZING and ROMANTIC and I could just talk about it all day.

But what a hard question! Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh, that question is so hard to answer! Right now, I would take Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't know that I could pick only one book. So many of my favorites are series books, so picking just one of a series would be almost cruel! Thank you for allowing us to "meet you" Ms. Caine. I am definitely interested in this new series of yours.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ahh, no idea. That is a tough question.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That is a very tough question and changes almost daily. Right now I would have to say Pride and Prejudice. It is one of my all time favorite novels and one which has inspired so many others to write sequels.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yup, I would make one huge book of all seven harry potter books!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love so many book, so picking just one would be very difficult! But if I had to, I would choose between these five: #1 The Selection by Kiera Cass, #2 The Winner's Crime by Marie Rutkoski, #3 Rook by Sharon Cameron, #4 The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh, and #5 This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner.
Thanks so much for the giveaway, and I cannot wait to read Ink and Bone!

    ReplyDelete
  46. It's hard choose just one, an anthology might be nice, but just one? (whine, whine, whine) the LUX series -- I love that series, but picking one.. geesh!

    ReplyDelete
  47. That would be absolutely terrible if owning books became illegal!! If I had to pick just one book, I would have to go with one of the Harry Potter books. I could reread those forever!

    Thanks for the giveaway :)

  48. Thanks so much for this giveaway! I am so excited to read Ink and Bone. Wow. This is so hard. I don't really have an all-time favorite book at the moment, but I think if owning books became illegal or so rare like in the Tearling books I would love to have Harry Potter or A Song of Ice and Fire series because I could happily keep re-reading them. Especially GRRM's series because it's so complex and detailed.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Night Watch by Terry Pratchett. Funny, deep, and just a great book.

    ReplyDelete
  50. If owning printed books were illegal, I'd probably become a literary criminal kingpin. But---if I HAD to pick one book, it would probably be The Complete Works of T.S. Eliot.

    ReplyDelete
  54. (Alisha Sienkiel in rafflecopter)

I would definitely save my Bible. But I could find a way to hide my some of my other books too. There are lot of hiding places around and I have enough other books to fill in the shelves so it didn't look like there were stuff missing. lol

    ReplyDelete
  55. I would have to choose the bible that was my grandmas and my mom let me have. Thanks fir the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm fairly certain I'd end up in jail for breaking the law in this scenario! But I think I'd pick the final Harry Potter book, because I've held off reading it so the series doesn't have to end. I just don't want it to.

    ReplyDelete
  57. If this were real, and it was punishable by one year in prison for every book you smuggle, I'm fairly certain that I'd probably spend the rest of my life in prison lol. If I had to choose just one, though, I guess it would be To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han... But then again, you can just get an e-reader and download a bunch of books there, right?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Wow this is such a hard question because I have lots of favorites I can't choose just one. Hmm, well if printed books became illegal I would probably choose the last printed book by Ilona Andrews.
