"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week, I'm featuring:
Rogue Wave by Jennifer Donnelly
Book Two of the Waterfire series
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Publication Date: January 6, 2015
Summary (from Goodreads):
Serafina, Neela, Ling, Ava, Becca, and Astrid, six mermaids from realms scattered throughout the seas and freshwaters, were summoned by the leader of the river witches to learn an incredible truth: the mermaids are direct descendants of the Six Who Ruled-powerful mages who once governed the lost empire of Atlantis. The ancient evil that destroyed Atlantis is stirring again, and only the mermaids can defeat it. To do so, they need to find magical talismans that belonged to the Six.
Serafina believes her talisman was buried with an old shipwreck. While researching its location, she is almost discovered by a death rider patrol led by someone familiar. . . . The pain of seeing him turned traitor is devastating.
Neela travels to Matali to warn her parents of the grave threat facing their world. But they find her story outlandish; a sign that she needs to be confined to her chamber for rest and recovery. She escapes and travels to Kandina, where her talisman is in the possession of fearsome razormouth dragons.
As they hunt for their talismans, both Serafina and Neela find reserves of courage and cunning they didn't know they possessed. They face down danger and death, only to endure a game-changing betrayal, as shocking as a rogue wave.
I really enjoyed the first book, Deep Blue!
This sounds like a fun read... simple cover, but says so much!

Thank you so much! And yeah :/ Five months to go!
DeleteI haven't read Blue Deep yet but it looks so good! And from what i've heard Jennifer Donelly is a wonderful author.
ReplyDeleteNemo @ Blame it on the Book
I loved Deep Blue! I have not read any of the author's other books though, but she has quite a few!
DeleteI really enjoyed Deep Blue too, It was pretty interesting to read since I haven't read many underwater ones anyway, and it just fun and loved the sister vibe to it, you know? So can't wait to get back into that world. :)
ReplyDeleteHere's mine
Kirsty @ StudioReads
I'm so glad! And me too, Kirsty - I don't read too many deep-sea-adventure books! And the sisterhood was definitely a plus ^_^ Hope you enjoy Rogue Wave when you read it!!
DeleteI couldn't get into the first, but know lots of people did. I hope you get to read it soon. Happy hump day!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that! Thank you, Brandi :)
DeleteI don't think I'll be reading either the first book or this one, but I really hope you'll love this one and I'm sure the cover will be a stunner!
ReplyDeleteThat's okay! Thank you, Pili =)
DeleteThank you so much, Sandra!
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of mixed reviews for Deep Blue, but I loved Jennifer's other books so I still really want to read it! I'm not sure how I feel about the cover though, it seems kind of plain.
ReplyDeleteAriel @ Bookish Confessions
I liked Deep Blue a lot! I haven't read any of her other books though. This is a placeholder cover, as you can see in the top-right corner!
DeleteI've had really bad luck with mermaid books, so I"m very hesitant to start this series. I do hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean! Lies Beneath didn't really work out for me, and Of Triton was really disappointing (though I liked Of Poseidon). Thank you, Liza!
DeleteI haven't read Deep Blue yet but I did love the cover and I love mermaid books. I don't read too many of them either as there really are not a ton of good ones out there. Will have to get to Deep Blue. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteYY! Awesome! I don't read too many either, and rarely like the ones I read. You're welcome!!
DeleteI haven't started this series yet, but it looks really good. And I do love a good mermaid story! Thanks for sharing:-)
ReplyDeleteThe first book was awesome! You're welcome, Tammy ^_^
DeleteOhh this series sounds so good! I don't know that I've read a mermaid book before, but I am definitely drawn in by the water aspect. Great pick, hope you enjoy it :)
ReplyDelete-Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight
There's always time for a first! This particular series is alright by me :D
DeleteI wasn't such a fan of Deep Blue but still I'm really curious about this. I wanna see what happens next with girls. I hope you'll enjoy this one. Great pick :)
ReplyDeleteAww, I'm sorry to hear that! Glad to see the residual curiosity though. Thank you so much!!
DeleteGreat pick sweetie :D I hope you will love this book. <3 I.. did not read book one :p but maybe one day ;p
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carina! That's okay!
DeleteI still need to find a mermaid book/series that I enjoy, haha. Haven't tried this one out yet, but I love the cover of the first. Hope this one is enjoyable for you too!
ReplyDeleteI'm also a mermaid skeptic lol. But PERHAPS THIS WILL BE THE ONE ;D Thank you!
DeleteSoooo, I didn't love the first book, but I'm really stinking curious, gosh darn it. I want to know who the traitor is. Badly. You think it's the guy? His name completely escapes me. "The guy" is a really good description, huh?
ReplyDeleteI quit. Great pick Alyssa!
Ha! I know what you mean! I feel the same way about The Vault of Dreamers. I MUST KNOW. And LOL the guy... I can't seem to remember to whom you're referring. THIS IS BAD. I should re-read this one before I read the next one...
