Waiting on Wednesday (#14): Awaken by Meg Cabot

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I'm featuring:

Awaken (Abandon Trilogy, #3)

Awaken by Meg Cabot
Book Three of the Abandon series
Publisher: Point (Scholastic, Inc.)
Publication Date: July 2, 2013

Summary (from Goodreads):

Death has her in his clutches. She doesn’t want him to let go.

Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera knew by accepting the love of John Hayden, she’d be forced to live forever in the one place she’s always dreaded most: the Underworld. The sacrifice seemed worth it, though, because it meant she could be with the boy she loves.

But now her happiness — and safety — are threatened, all because the Furies have discovered that John has broken one of their strictest rules: He revived a human soul.

If the balance between life and death isn’t fixed, both the Underworld and Pierce’s home back on earth will be wiped away. But there’s only one way to restore order. Someone has to die.

While I did not particularly like Underworld (Book Two), even though I really liked Abandon (Book One), I am very excited to read this final installment of the Cabot's Hades and Persephone retelling. I am hoping for a lot more character development on Pierce's part, and really, for Pierce to end up in the Underworld with John.

But, we'll see.

  9. I know what you mean! I really liked Abandoned but felt so-so about Underworld. Hopefully Meg Cabot will redeem herself with a good finale.

    3. I read Insatiable, and I hated it. Otherwise, nothing! Abandon was the first I'd read by her. I have seen her Princess Diaries movies though - so cute! :D

    4. Eh. That really wasn't her best work, LOL. The Princess Diaries is really cute, but I like her "Queen of Babble" best. It's a little bit adult, though. (Don't know why I'm warning you, you've read Insatiable. LOL) Most of her contemporary series/books rocked. And her Mediator series was interesting. LOL, sorry for the ramble. O.O
