Today's topic is:
Back to School/Learning Freebie
... which means I get to pick, and I'm choosing my Favorite Classics/"Required Reading"!
I'm actually not that into "the classics" and could barely get through any of the required reading in school (despite having a deep love for reading). But these books (and more, these are just ten) are incredible. I highly recommend!
I was the same in school. I loathe the classics which makes me an odd reader I guess! I only had a very select few, less than 10 and likely less than 5 unless we count fairy tales as classics! Lol!

I actually liked most of the books I read as part of required reading, though it took me until college to really love Shakespeare. :) I agree with Of Mice and Men and Night.

I was never a fan of required reading. There were a couple books that I did like: The Outsiders, Fahrenheit 451, Airborn by Kenneth Oppel, Freedom Writers. I also liked Shakespeare- but only when I was in high school- The Taming of the Shrew is probably my favorite.
ReplyDeleteThere were two books that I absolutely disliked that I had to read for school... The Hiding Place by Carrie Ten Boom- this person could not write at all... even though she had important story to tell. And Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe- it was just a hard book to get through...
i keep telling myself I should read classics but i can't seem to get into them.
It's fun to see how the required reading changed since I was in school, Lena. :-) I did, however, get to take a movie trip and see Taming of the Shrew for my drama class.

Look at that! We both had Huck Finn and Animal Farm on our lists. I doubt I would have read these book had they not been required, but they were among some of the ones I enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get into any of my required reading in school either, despite my love of reading. It's different when you're forced to read something!

I've only read a couple of these and they are amazing, especially Night. Thanks for sharing. I'll have to check out some of the ones I haven't read yet.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading "The Giver". I actually really enjoyed it so much that I recently picked up the sequel from a thrift store.
ReplyDeleteAshley @ Oh Hey! Books.
