Waiting on Wednesday (#62): Fiendish by Brenna Yovanoff

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I'm featuring:

Fiendish by Brenna Yovanoff
Publisher: Razorbill
Publication Date: August 14, 2014

Summary (from Goodreads):

Clementine DeVore spent ten years trapped in a cellar, pinned down by willow roots, silenced and forgotten.

Now she’s out and determined to uncover who put her in that cellar and why.

When Clementine was a child, dangerous and inexplicable things started happening in New South Bend. The townsfolk blamed the fiendish people out in the Willows and burned their homes to the ground. But magic kept Clementine alive, walled up in the cellar for ten years, until a boy named Fisher sets her free. Back in the world, Clementine sets out to discover what happened all those years ago. But the truth gets muddled in her dangerous attraction to Fisher, the politics of New South Bend, and the Hollow, a fickle and terrifying place that seems increasingly temperamental ever since Clementine reemerged.

This one sounds so haunting and intriguing. That works for me!

  16. This one sounds so interesting, especially the idea of being locked in the cellar for years. BUT I swear every time I read the name Clementine I picture a southern matriarch with a big hat, sipping sweet tea and fanning herself on her front porch, calling for her granddaughter. I don't know. Weird visual, but it's true. :)

    Great pick Alyssa!!

    1. LOL wow, what a visual! I always think of Laini Taylor's daughter. Which is definitely creepy and stalker-ish, but that's the only person I "know" in real life with the name!

      Thank you, Rachel ^_^

  20. BRENNA YOVANOFF! Haven't read her books in a long time! I liked The Replacement and Smoulder, they were both super creepy. This looks just as creepy... or maybe even more so! I hope you like it and maybe I'll give it a go.
