It also sounds like all the issues you had with this book are the same issues I've been having with the second. Has potential, but a few unexplained story details (like Graham and Archer disliking each other for being rakes). Even worse, the second book really can't be read comfortably without the first, as they take place at the same time and events from the first book show up randomly. As someone that didn't read the first book (I'm kinda used to historical romance series being able to be read in any order) it is really disjointing, and sort of gives away a major plot spoiler around the end (without explaining anything of course).

I was considering reading the first book to get some context to the events that happen in the second book (and maybe it'd be a better read than the second), but from the sounds of things it just might not be worth it.

I think the authors have some potential, just in need of some more polish and plot/character development. Thanks for the detailed review!Jamiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13858343480688168146noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3634501776293792112.post-38921605545441521222017-01-07T17:01:35.677-05:002017-01-07T17:01:35.677-05:00Thanks, Carina! Authors can fictionalize stories in historic settings... to a certain extent. Like you said, there are some aspects that I am willing to forgive. As much as I'm willing to forgive and even welcome some anachronisms in my historical fiction (i.e. those that make things easier for women, PoC, queer folks, etc.) this sounds like a bit too much...especially since the historical inaccuracies in this book don't appear to have any real purpose.
